Within a few centuries, the efforts of private enterprise and a united Earth government had turned Mars into a paradise rivaling the planet which had birthed humanity. The Martian population exploded into the millions, forging their own unique culture and history, and soon there was an entire generation who knew Earth only as a blue dot in the sky. This shift concerned history professor Frank M. Srikar, in spite of the achievement it signified. He knew, despite making his own permanent home on Mars, that humanity had much farther to go, and for that, they'd need to understand how far they'd come.With the rapid growth of Mars' cities came a need for education, so the UNSA created an endowment to bring teachers and their families from Earth. Frank became one of Mars' earliest historians, and took great stock of everything he witnessed, including the history of the ships which had brought them there, the evolution of terraforming technology, and the unique biology of the Martian flora. He passed all this down to his students, who over the years went from being first, to second, to third-generation Martians. When he noticed they had stopped referring to Mars as the Red Planet, Srikar knew a bold approach to sharing the past with these space-age children was needed.He approached the UNSA once again, this time seeking a grant to found a historical institute dedicated to the past, present, and future of Mars, and the widening view of our solar system. This think tank would bring together explorers, settlers and terraforming experts who could shed a light on the short history of inhabited Mars, as well as guest speakers from Earth to share first-hand accounts of changes to humanity's homeworld. At the core of his mission statement, Srikar sought to educate students with the knowledge of centuries past, in order to then inspire them to reach further into the cosmos for the sake of future generations. The Beyond Mars Institute is now one of the UNSA's most storied organizations, and has given rise to legions of innovators with an eye towards history, inspired by Frank M. Srikar's credo that one must know where they came from to know where they're going.

In July 2020, NASAs Perseverance Mars Rover successfully launched from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. Nearly seven months and about 292 million miles later, the rover is just a day away from arriving at its new home.Perseverance, carrying the Ingenuity helicopter, is expected to touch down on the Red Planets Jezero Crater tomorrow, February 18 at approximately 3:55 p.m. EST. Once it safely reaches the surface, the rover will begin its mission of looking for signs of ancient microbial life. NASA invites you to virtually participate in the exciting festivities. NASA announced in a press release Tuesday that SpaceX was awarded a $331 million contract to deliver the first two components of the moon-orbiting Gateway outpost. There is a belief in business that two sorts of people exist those who find ways to make themselves rich, and those who rely on government aid to stay afloat. But there are also those wily businessmen like Rafael Francisco Nogueira who exist at the intersection of these ideas he learned through years of studying global markets that once you sense the winds of change, you can find money simply falling from the sky and position yourself to catch it.Nogueira entered real estate at a time when few would wish to make a home anywhere on Earth. While the worst of the Sundering was over, the shockwaves of the event could still be felt across the globe, including in the delicate ecosystem of South America's rainforests. Rafael's colleagues sought to expand development projects into the jungle to make up for their profound losses, but the newly empowered UNSA was bearing down on them, levying huge penalties for clear-cutting the land that could be used to re-stabilize the planet. And while they sank billions into fighting the UNSA in court, Nogueira instead saw an immense opportunity in the subsidies being offered to preserve the rainforest.Rather than buying land to build condos, he shaped his business around buying wilderness property on the cheap, and then sitting on it and cashing his subsidy checks. It soon became clear that he could turn a significant profit through minimal conservation effort, simply by claiming as much land as possible and doing nothing with it. By the time the UNSA caught wind of Nogueira's strategy he had laid claim to two-thirds of the Amazon, as well as an enormous fortune.This approach to the biosphere business, which Rafael himself dubbed "laissez-faire ecology," appealed greatly to the Horizon Corporation. They decided to hire Nogueira, knowing that as forests began to sprout on Mars and Venus, the people invested in those planets' successful terraformation would be dependent upon the greenery which they owned. Nogueira, now wealthy beyond his wildest dreams, was happy to take his legitimate enterprise beyond the stratosphere, especially as it helped him avoid any number of lawsuits from the UNSA headed his way.

A recent paper published in the Planetary Science Journal showed that all seven planets of the TRAPPIST-1 system have remarkably similar densities with values differing no more than 3%. Pim Jansson was only three years old when her mother was killed, gunned down by the Daughters of Gaia during a homesteaders' protest. But while losing Kat took a heavy toll on Pim's father Rex and her brother Neil, Pim grew up only knowing the ghost of her mother. This hazy recollection was further refracted through the violent rhetoric of her father's insurgency, and the result was a sweet-looking girl with a soul made of nitroglycerin.Rex had been a loving father during Neil's childhood, but as Pim grew up she was surrounded by soldiers, pirates, and partisans. Her father's noble crusade left little time for parenting, and as his own heart hardened his daughter's filled with eager wrath. By age 8 Pim was loading rifles for her father's troops, at 12 she could strip and repair a railgun, and by 13 she was sitting in on tactical briefings. On her 14th birthday Pim executed her first raid into enemy territory, destroying a group of Gaian biomass towers near Pavonis Mons. Thanks to her careful planning, none of the 22 workers survived.When he heard about what she had done, Neil was shocked and horrified. Already uncertain about his father's use of violence, Neil left shortly thereafter for Earth to do some image management for the Hephaestian cause (and perhaps some soul-searching of his own). He tried to take Pim with him, but she refused no mere pawn in her father's war, the girl had become an avid participant. Things only accelerated when Pim connected with Zeke Pea, a hard-bitten commando known for his grim ferocity. Pim and Zeke saw in each other a kindred spirit, and their operations have only become more daring, and more violent, ever since. Rumors of civilian executions have begun to circulate around them, hushed whispers of atrocities with no one left to report them.Recently those in Rex's inner circle have begun to express concerns about his daughter's trajectory, though Rex is too much of a righteous freedom fighter to recognize the genuine darkness in his daughter's heart. But while her father tries to win the fight and her brother tries to end it, Pim Jansson may just be the spark that sets the entire solar system ablaze.
