Not many influencers in the last 400 years can claim to have conquered social media on Earth, let alone across the entire settled solar system. But while her meteoric rise to superstardom has made Faizah Kirmani a household name across multiple worlds, her self-described "Midas Touch" is perhaps her most defining trait, launching countless other brands beyond the stratosphere. Kirmani first entered the public eye as a cast member on the short-lived reality series "Elysium Lif...e." The show was bankrolled by the Horizon Corporation as part of a campaign to promote the newly-developed Martian beachside communities of Elysium Mons as a trendy new home for Earth's wealthy elite. But in a program otherwise defined by false drama and shameless materialism, what really stuck with viewers was the bright-eyed sweetness and genuine, playful joy of Faizah Kirmani, the youngest of the aspiring starlets. Her obvious star quality catapulted her into the spotlight, and before the end of Elysium's first and only season she had been signed as a spokesperson and influencer for the Horizon Corporation. From there Kirmani quickly rose to icon status with her own Horizon-sponsored fashion line, beauty products, awards hosting gigs, and the #1 trending livestream on the budding social media platform, Liftoff. Kirmani could have chosen to commit all her energy to the advancement of her own image, which would have made her sponsors at Horizon perfectly happy. But (as her adoring fans are never tired of mentioning) as part of her contract she demanded the autonomy to invest a significant portion of her time, and substantial Horizon resources, toward her passion projects. These included campaigns promoting equal access to space resettlement resources for low-income families, cutting-edge astronomy tech advances for every classroom on Earth and Mars, and chiefly, increased access to space-age engineering training for young girls, something Faizah never had but always wanted. While the limelight suits her just fine, the knowledge that her work is lifting a thousand new voices to the cosmos is what truly keeps Faizah smiling for the cameras.

After spending 62 days aboard the International Space Station, NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley safely returned back to Earth on Sunday afternoon. The SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, appropriately named Endeavour, undocked from the stations Harmony module at 7:35 p.m. EDT on Saturday, August 1 and splashed down off the coast of Pensacola, Florida less than 24 hours later. Endeavours return trip is just as monumental as its launch from U.S. soil. Last year,... a test flight of the SpaceX Dragon revealed that its base could be roasted to a whopping 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit as it plummets through Earths atmosphere at intense speeds. But thankfully, the capsule was equipped with two sets of parachutes devised to slow down its rapid descent. Eventually, the spacecraft reached a gentle speed of 15 mph before touching down in the Gulf of Mexico, where a recovery ship retrieved it from the water and a medical team tended to the passengers. Before their departure from space, the pair had completed 1,024 orbits around Earth, traveled 27,147,284 statute miles, and conducted a number of scientific experiments designed to help us better understand the effects that we, as humans, have on our planet. As for Endeavour, it will return back to SpaceXs Dragon Lair for data retrieval and multiple inspections. If meeting the requirements for NASAs certification process, the next Crew Dragon capsule will transport a four-person crew to the ISS in late September. Congratulations again to NASA and SpaceX on their huge accomplishments and welcome home, Bob and Doug! Contrary to popular belief, the Sons of Hephaestus are not united as a single philosophical organization. Adherents to the teachings of Te Hau Arataki exist in a constellation of loosely affiliated groups, the majority of which are collectives of workers and machinists who act as non-violent advocates of the Planetary Purity movement. That being said, there are also those who choose to take the fight against terraforming in a more direct, dangerous direction, and the resultin...g chaos is where Zeke Pea feels most at home. Where Neil Jansson represents the clean-cut, just-folks, neighborly face of their campaign, Pea has become famous in his own right as the clenched fist of the Kaitiaki, the personal enforcer of the infamous Rex Jansson, leading black ops raids against terraforming installations throughout the solar system. These strikes have been condemned by many as terrorist attacks, while others hail Zeke and his fellow partisans as principled protectors of their homeland. His two most recognizable features among the masses are his facial scars, earned while leading a prison riot during a twelve-week stay in a Gaian interrogation facility, and his missing right arm, the story of which remains legend. The two most popular rumors among Hephaestian troops suggest that he either lost it by disabling a massive hydrogen processor with his bare hand, or that his environment suit was punctured at the start of a mission and he chose to let the arm go rather than scrub the op. Among the few who know of his volatile relationship with Pim Jansson, it's whispered that he may have lost it during one of their frequent (and oftentimes violent) rendezvous. Pea remains a fugitive at large, wanted for crimes against multiple nations on seven different worlds throughout the system. Even a handful of his ideological allies in the Sons have discussed the possibility of tracking him down and turning him in as a gesture of international goodwill. Not that such discussions ever made it very far too many of the Hephaestian hardliners still support him, and the rest are too scared of him to try.

On July 19 at 21:58:14 UTC, the United Arab Emirates orbiter Hope was launched from Tanegashima Space Center in Japan, bound for Mars. Scientists expect the data produced by the uncrewed space probe will offer more insight about the planets atmosphere and climate history. With the successful launch of the Emirates Mars Mission comes a heightened sense of excitement and inspiration for not only the UAE, but also for the rest of the world. NASA is eager for its own Mars miss...ion, Perseverance, to join Hope in its exploration of the Red Planet. The agencys Mars 2020 Rover is targeted for a 7:50 a.m. EDT launch on July 30 on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Perseverances expected landing at Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021 will mark the end of its seven-month-long journey to Mars. While roaming its surface, the robot will look for signs of microbial life and collect rock and regolith samples to bring back to Earth for analysis. To further prepare for human exploration on Mars, spacesuit designer Amy Ross will send five pieces of spacesuit material aboard the rover to study the effects of Mars atmosphere on astronaut uniforms. Thats not all to look forward to! In addition, Perseverance will carry the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, a separate experiment designed to test the first controlled flight on another planet. Virtual activities and live coverage of the launch will begin at 7 a.m. on NASA television and on NASAs website. The public is also invited to watch the event on social media sites such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitch, Daily Motion, and Theta TV. Kainoa Akna Kalani was literally born into Gaian Imperial Navy. Her mother gave birth while serving on the Gaian flagship, and Kalani spent her childhood on military vessels and outposts scattered around the solar system. Both her parents were seasoned interplanetary explorers with successful naval careers, and Kainoa never questioned her destiny of a life of military service. But as she grew older she also became fixated on oceanography and marine biology, which opened her e...yes to a whole world that was almost totally unknown to Gaian society on the scorching and toxic surface of Venus. On the day that she came of age, Kalani announced her intention to study at the newly-established Irai Leima Naval Academy, specializing in maritime exploration. After serving on several missions in the watery oceans of Earth and the methane seas of Titan, Lieutenant Commander Kalani was put in charge of the "IGS Mildred H. McAfee", a submarine that had been tasked with descending through the 20 kilometers of ice which blanketed Europa, to explore the pitch-black oceans below. On their nineteen-day expedition, Kalani's six-woman crew circumnavigated the moon twice, produced the first bathymetric maps of Europa's ocean floor, and (according to persistent rumors) encountered a number of strange lifeforms and unexplainable phenomena, the exact nature of which was subsequently been classified by the Gaian High Command. After her famous mission, the young officer became a minor celebrity throughout the solar system. Today she is recognized as the premier authority in deep-water exploration within the Gaian capital of Ishtar. But while her professionalism and talent have served her well, her personal fascination with astrobiology has been seen by many as antithetical to the Gaian reverence for Earth-based life. She has therefore become a somewhat controversial figure in the Gaian establishment, a symbol of what some refer to as "second-wave Gaianism" or "Xeno-Gaianism" popular among the younger generation. Only time will tell how far Kalani's thirst for discovery will take her, or what new mysteries she may discover beneath the waves.

In celebration of NASAs 51st Anniversary of its historic Apollo 11 Moon mission, we share with you new information about Earths natural satellite. Weeks ago, while searching for ice on the Moons crater floors, team members guiding NASAs Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft found some evidence that provides critical information about its history. Using the Miniature Radio Frequency instrument (Mini-RF), researchers detected that the Moons subsurface is potentiall...y richer in metals than they first thought. NASA scientists hypothesize that the Moon formed as the result of a collision between a proto-Earth and a Mars-sized planetoid. Because of this, the Moons chemical makeup is similar to that of Earths, but taking a closer look at the Moons surface shows that its lunar highlands, or rocky plains, lack metals commonly found on Earth. One proposed reason for this is based on the assumption that Earth developed a core, mantle, and crust prior to the collision. But examining the Moons maria (larger plains) reveals that the Moon is teeming with more metals like iron and titanium than researchers once believed. Using the Mini-RF to measure the electric potential energy of an object, or the dielectric constant, researchers noticed that this property increased as craters grew in size. This constant, which has typically been an indicator of frozen water, has now opened the door to new discoveries. The team supposes that the dielectric constant is much greater in larger craters where metal minerals are lurking beneath the surface. Eager to find more evidence, the NASA team has been directing their efforts to the Moons southern hemisphere to search for any similar patterns. Should their hypothesis be confirmed, only the first 100 meters of its surface would be metal-poor, but its subsurface may have an abundance of metals which would be quite useful for future settlers. In the early decades of space exploration, the most powerful spacefaring factions all vied to secure the expertise of humanity's best and brightest. While many notable geniuses chose their allegiance based on personal ideologies, some of Earth's most unique minds refused to be tied down, working as contractors on a limited basis only. These independent thinkers viewed the goals of profiteering, preservation, population spread and sheer transformation as ideological impediment...s to true scientific discovery, however noble they might be. One way or another, most of these mavericks have ended up as members of the Far-Future Institute. Founded by a group of scientists, futurists, inventors, and philanthropists at the darkest moment of the Sundering, the FFI is an international society dedicated to reshaping humanity's future through the pursuit and application of bleeding-edge science, and securing humanity's destiny against any future extinction-level events. Very few Nobel laureates or MacArthur Fellows in the last 150 years have been unconnected to the FFI, and almost all of the greatest scientific and engineering achievements in that time have been spearheaded by FFI members. While there exist no direct rivals to the FFI's cause, the growth of this forward-thinking faction has ruffled the feathers of the leaders who were once privileged to call upon its members' unique wisdom. But after a century of breakthrough discoveries, world-changing inventions, and colossal construction projects, the FFI is no longer satisfied to simply advise the splintered factions of humanity as they bicker amongst themselves. The Far-Future Institute envisions a world beyond petty corporations, religions, and governments, a world where policy is guided by science, where reason is king, and where even the sky isn't the limit for long. And under their ambitious new director, Keahi Malae, the FFI stands poised to take the reigns of humanity's future once and for all.

As you may remember from our recent pop quiz, the exoplanet Kelt-9b is almost 3x the size of Jupiter, and reaches a whopping surface temperature of 4600 degrees Kelvin due to its scorching hot star. Referred to as a hot Jupiter, this gas-dominated exoplanet type orbits in close proximity to its parent star. Recently, a team of researchers from The American Astrological Society detected another hot Jupiter about 500 light-years away which they call HIP 67522 b. Possibly the ...youngest hot Jupiter ever found, HIP 67522 b is speculated to be a few million years younger than its 17 million-year-old parent star. In comparison, most of the exoplanets belonging to this group of hot, gaseous worlds are more than a billion years old. This discovery has upended previous ideas about the creation of hot Jupiters, for how could a planet this young form near the extreme heat and combustive nature of its star? NASA scientists propose three possible explanations for this bizarre phenomenon 1) Jupiter-like planets form far away from new stars and migrate closer; 2) these gas-giants are born and evolve near their parent stars; 3) both the exoplanet and parent star develop as a result of accretion, or the gradual accumulation of dust and gas. In the early age of space exploration, most interplanetary piloting tasks were entirely mundane supply shipments, civilian transport, routine maintenance checks, etc. But as spacefaring technology improved, so did the risks of deeper exploration into the solar system and the threats of violence from rival factions. When it came to missions with high risk and high importance, missions that would fill even the cockiest space jockeys with dread, the UNSA knew to call on Dae-Hyu...n Yu. Dae-Hyun first made a name for himself as a test pilot in the United Korean Air Force, displaying a willingness to take experimental spacecraft well past their known limits. Rumors began circulating that he was missing the part of his amygdala that generates fear, or perhaps that he'd had it surgically removed. His exploits gained the attention of UNSA Admiral Buzz Sullivan, who convinced Dae-Hyun to join up with the newly-established UNSA fleet. Just a few months later the UNSA began a campaign to clear out a group of raiders from the Asteroid Belt, and it was during this operation that Dae-Hyun proved both his skill, and his dedication to his new branch of service. During an extended game of cat-and-mouse throughout the cloud of flying rocks between Mars and Jupiter, Dae-Hyun's commitment to rooting out the enemy never wavered. The pirate fleet proved no match for his expert maneuvers, and every time he returned to the landing bay in a battered and collapsing fighter he would laugh off suggestions of medical attention, often choosing instead to hop into a fresh ship and head straight back out into the fray. After leading the final run which crippled the enemy carrier and broke the back of the pirate fleet, Dae-Hyun was awarded the Lunar Cross, the UNSA's highest military honor, to which he famously joked, "If you keep the medal, can I keep the ship?" Dae-Hyun has most recently been tasked with pioneering the UNSA's long-range exploration wing, scouting the safe routes to new and untouched planets and moons. Since receiving his assignment, at least four meetings have been required to clearly define for Dae-Hyun what constitutes a "safe route" for any other pilot.

Discovered in spring 2016 and confirmed by subsequent observations, the "hot Jupiter" gas giant known as Kelt-9b is 2.8 times bigger than our Jupiter, and due to the intense heat of its blue A-type star, reaches a surface temperature on one tidally locked side of 4600 degrees Kelvin (or 7800 degrees Farenheit). Another object of interest, Kepler-70b, was once believed to be a rocky exoplanet with a surface temperature over 7000 Kelvin, but later research disputes its existenc...e. First spotted by the adorably named KELT, or Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope system, new observations of KELT-9b suggest it is prone to planetwide meltdowns so severe that hydrogen gas molecules are unable to remain intact, only re-forming after their disjointed atoms flow around to the planet's nightside. This is a rare instance in which we'll say, human explorers can take a pass on this one.

Been thinking a lot about extremely hot worlds since version 5.7? There exist in our galaxy massive gas giants known as "hot Jupiters," some around three times as large as our Jupiter, and much hotter. While you won't find any lava on these planets, the hottest of discovered hot Jupiters is so scorching that the hydrogen molecules in its atmosphere are ripped apart during the day! Can you guess the surface temperature of this piteous planet? Bonus points (to be cashed in for bragging rights) if you can name the planet in the comments!

One of the more eccentric members of the Far-Future Initiative is Olivia Stein. Early in her career she became notorious for her unique balance of intuitive genius and experimental madness, the kind of person who would invent a revolutionary new system that could reshape whole industries, at the cost of burning down her lab or breaking the local power grid. This made Stein heavily sought after by corporate executives far removed from the daily work of science, and dreaded by ...anyone in closer proximity. Of course, Stein's habit of leaving devastation in the wake of discovery made her particularly well-suited to terraforming projects, where wiping away what existed before was part of the stated goal of the endeavor. Tempted away from a rather ambitious project dealing with self-replicating ice structures in Ilium, New York, Stein was hired to experiment with satellite thermal tracking systems aboard the International Space Station. UNSA reps had simply hoped for a better system for testing planetary climate models. Instead, Stein became so enamored with the late-stage implications of the project, she hypothesized a combined use of orbital mirrors and solar shades, attuned to the sun's position and guided through artificial intelligence into a dynamic and adaptive system for controlling planetary temperatures. This magnum opus was eventually dubbed the 'Soletta', but the science behind it was forever known as the 'Stein Method'. Blown away by her discovery, Stein's colleagues offered her a tenured position where she could pursue self-directed projects, including her Soletta research. Olivia, excited to explore the limits of her invention, suggested that the obvious next step would be to test it on Mercury, the hottest planet in our solar system. Unfortunately for her team, they awoke one day to learn that Stein had suddenly accepted a separate contract to study oxygenation anomalies in the atmosphere of Europa. Taped onto the microwave in the crew cabin of the ISS, Stein's team found a note with her personal comm address, a crude sketch of a redesigned thermal induction coil they'd been working on for weeks, and a request to "let me know how it goes!"

Dear Terraformers, We sadly had to halt this weekend's limited time Pontus event prematurely after discovering a critical error in the code which caused event saves to auto-delete before completion. As of now, version 5.8 has been made an even greater priority to address this and other issues being reported by you, and we hope to be able to host a successful LTE next weekend. Elle De Len was bound for a comfortable academic life in Chile, following in the footsteps of her parents, both renowned geologists specializing in volcanology. But rather than accept a legacy position at Pontificia Universidad, she eagerly pursued field work that put her in increasingly dangerous proximity to the subject of her family's expertise. Studies conducted early in her college days had convinced her that the environmental calamities of the mid-20th century had crea...ted undiscovered ripple effects, and in spite of humanity's recovery, De Len feared the consequences of forgetting the mistakes of the past and abusing Earth's natural order. Elle's family became further concerned when she began repeating talking points of the newly formed Sons of Hephaestus. She'd been taken in by the teachings of Te Hau Arataki, as recited by Rex Jansson on unauthorized radio broadcasts, which harped on the fringe idea of 'planetary purity' and often spoke about the Daughters of Gaia in harsh terms that worried Elle's pacifist parents. Elle assured them that her attitude toward the Gaians was not one of righteous anger, but that all changed after the catastrophe on Titan. Gaian settlers, emboldened by the successful hominization of Venus, had attempted to de-pressurize Saturn's largest moon too quickly, resulting in rapid overheating and a cascade of geological shifts and faults which threatened to envelop all of Titan! The elder De Lens refused to involve themselves, but Elle volunteered to lead her own task force, successfully averting one of the gravest terraforming disasters in the history of our solar system at age 28. By this time, Elle had already declared her allegiance to the Sons of Hephaestus, and vowed not to return to Earth until the natural sanctity of all remaining independent worlds was officially preserved.
