We often come across different alongside railway tracks that serve different purposes for locomotive drivers and railway staff. Some symbols are very common and we know their meaning. But some of those Indian railway symbols are hard to understand. A simple '' on a square yellow board indicates 'Whistle'. Train drivers are instructed to blow horn after seeing this board. W/L signboard on railway tracks indicates 'Whistle for a level crossing. It simply instr...ucts train drivers to whistle as there is a level crossing ahead.

at present is one of the oldest train running in India. Run by the East Indian Railway Company, the train (originally numbered 1 Up / 2 Dn) began operation between Calcutta and Delhi in 1866 as the "East Indian Railway Mail". Its run was extended from Delhi to Kalka in 1891. The train was the principal mechanism by which moved to their summer capital in Simla from Calcutta with the entire government machinery traveling on the train at the sta...rt of the summer months and returning by it at the end of summer.

Indian Railways is building the worlds highest railway bridge-five times the height of Qutub Minar and 35 meters taller than Eiffel Tower. It will come up over the Chenab river on the under construction rail link to the Kashmir Valley. The bridge will rise 359 meters over the Chenab on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project. Currently, the worlds tallest rail bridge runs over Frances Tarn river.

Here we come with another Interesting fact Indian Railways completes 167 years of passenger train services! The first passenger train was run over a stretch of 33 kilometres from Mumbai to Thane. On April 16th 1853, the train with 14 railway carriages, carrying over 400 guests, left Bori-Bunder at 3:35 pm.

Did you observe the letter X on the last coach when you are at the station ?. If you have not observed, do not forget the next time you observe this symbol. Here is the reason behind the symbol It indicates that the coach consisting of this letter X is on the last coach of the train. The letter "X" is used in the morning while the red light below is used to indicate the night. If the last coach on the train does not contain this symbol, it means that the train has broken dow...n and that we know that the train is running without other coaches. It can easily alert railway officials so they can save from the accident.
