The story of greenish friend ends, and we won't be making any major content updates to Zombie Island. It was a tough decision, and at times it seemed almost impossible. Weve been debating about the gameplay, balancing game economics, listening to the players feedback, making jokes. We did everything we could to make Zombie Island awesome. THATS IT. ANSWERS: PART ONEHello, Zombies. Weve received a lot of questions. We cant answer all of them in one take so we will make several posts with answers. Today well cover the biggest and hardest one.WHY WILL THERE BE NO MORE TASKS?The short and simple answer is were old. Eight years is a lot for a social game. We used to be one of the most popular games with the most dedicated fans. Despite that, for the last 2 or 3 years, the number of active players has been going down. It reduced so significantly that Zombie Island yielded little if any profit. Still, we made best to improve performance, keep the audience alive, balance the game economy, and add new complicated features to poor old game engine. Eight years is a lot even for the game code. We were fixing bugs and application vulnerabilities; safeguarding against cheat engines, bots and other automatized tools (they affect the game economy in a bad way); coming up with new game flow and quests. numbers kept going down. We guess its just a natural state of things. A champion, however great, cannot remain the champion. Either you retire in due time, or you lose again and again until no one remembers how great you were. We want you to remember us as a responsible team, who upon learning about ZIs end of development, decided to bow out gracefully. We would like to thank Vizors management for giving the ZI team an opportunity to finish what weve started. Its several months worth of salaries not earned from this project but time spent for programmers, game and narrative designers, 2D & 3D artists, graphic designers, QA engineers, translators, community managers, and tech support specialists. One of the most important things we managed to do was prepare Zombie Island for the change over from Flash technology to JavaScript. Were almost through with all the testing, and will make the switch shortly.We do hope that you like how Zombies story ends. That we followed through and let you take that Balloon to the Island of Inventors, learning the important truth, finding wisdom and falling in love. We sincerely believe thats how it should end, with little guy happy and safe. WILL YOU REMOVE THE GAME COMPLETELY?Maybe one day, but not in the nearest future. We are not going to remove the application or shut down the servers unless the number of active players gets critically low. We know that it doesnt sound too precise, but we cannot predict the exact date. Weve never closed any games before, so no one knows for sure how long it takes for all players to quit the game entirely. While you are here with us the servers will keep working. When the time comes, we will keep you informed about every step well be taking.First, well turn off the payment system. After a short while (a month or two) well shut down the servers. We will notify you on ZI page and in the game far in advance. It means that as long as you play, and have fun, and help each other, the game stays. You might still be hoping that the Bermuda Portal will manifest itself one day. It will, but we cant tell you how and when. No old questsAs for the old timed quests, its not possible to reopen them. Whether youve completed a quest line or missed your window, it still exists in your game state. To open these quests we would need to change the game state of every player manually.No new locationsThe number of renewable locations and the locations you can place your workers on should stay the same for similar reasons. No changes in limits and restrictionsMany players suggest removing limits and restrictions in the game. Supposedly, it will make the game easier and more fun. Based on 8 years of experience, we strongly believe that it will have the opposite effect. Besides, some players are starting their journey, or just halfway through. We want their zombastic adventures to be as fascinating as yours. This means that all these limits and restrictions remain the same: - gifts and collection exchange - neighbor digging - materials exchange (the gift button will not be added to new items) - magic wands - pirate crew hiring or pirate ships capacity- drop rates- storage optionsNew sales, offers, decorations We will maintain a regular schedule of sales and offers for the same reason. All players should have equal opportunities when playing the game. Sales will include buildings, old knock-knocks, zombie workers, extensions, etc. We will add new decorations, too, so your Ned shouldnt get too comfortable. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE ZI PAGE AND TECH SUPPORT?The ZI community will work as usual. It means well play mini-games, and well celebrate weird holidays, and well discuss something interesting.
