Ashta Chamma - Indian Ludo
Step back in time to the era of kings with "Ashta Chamma," a revered traditional Indian board game. More than just entertainment, this ancient pastime was designed to sharpen eye-to-hand coordination, develop crucial counting skills, and even impart valuable war tactics and strategy to teenagers. Often considered a precursor or variant of Ludo, Ashta Chamma offers a unique blend of chance and deep strategic thinking.
A Game of Chance and Strategy:
While the movement of your tokens is determined by the throw of four cowry shells (acting as dice), true victory in Ashta Chamma hinges on clever planning and tactical foresight. Every move presents a decision that could lead to triumph or defeat.
How to Play:

Entering the Board: Tokens can only begin their journey after a throw of "One" or "Ashta" (equivalent to 1 or 8).

Movement: Tokens travel anti-clockwise in the outer squares. Upon reaching their home square's left, they move into the inner squares, switching to a clockwise direction to reach the central "home" square.

Killing Opponents: Land on an opponent's token in a non-picture square to "kill" it, sending it back to its starting home square. This also grants you an extra turn!

Safe Zones: Tokens are immune to capture in specially marked "picture" boxes.

Inner Sanctuary: Tokens can only enter the inner squares after at least one of the opponent's tokens has been captured, adding a crucial strategic layer.

Bonus Turns: Roll a "Chamma" (4) or "Ashta" (8) with the cowry shells, or "kill" an opponent's token, to earn an extra turn. Be careful: three consecutive Chamma or Ashta throws will cost you your turn!

Winning: The first player (typically 2-4 players) to successfully guide all their tokens into the central home square wins the game.

1 Inverted, 3 As Is: Move 1 square.

2 Inverted, 2 As Is: Move 2 squares.

3 Inverted, 1 As Is: Move 3 squares.

4 Inverted (Chamma): Move 4 squares.

4 As Is (Ashta): Move 8 squares.
