Welcome to the web’s best guide to the best and worst heroes in Marvel Avengers Alliance Tactics. This guide is for players wondering:
Remember, Price != Effectiveness (price does not equal effectiveness). A lot of the worst heroes in the game are priced at 90 CP, and some of the best can be had for as little as 16 CP. Scroll to the bottom for a few hero buying strategies and an analysis of which strategies work best.
Top Tier Best Heroes These heroes are the best heroes in Marvel Avengers Alliance Tactics. Here’s what makes them the best at what they do: Iron Man (Blaster) – Free *Best BLASTER* Iron Man is just a beast. His L2 (Unibeam) is deadly, especially if you can line up the enemies and hit them all at once. You get him for free, but be sure to level up his skills every time you train him so he stays on top.
Dr. Doom (Tactician) – 90 CP *Best TACTICIAN*
Hits like a bag of bricks
Doom is a heavy hitter and all-around badass. Doom’s L6 chews through weaker enemies (OHKOs are common). Good damage on his single-target attack and a decent AOE move. Doom is really good, you will not regret buying him… even if 90 CP is a lot to save up. If he has any disadvantages, its his longer recovery times. But that doesn’t matter if everyone’s dead. Captain Marvel (Blaster) – 16 CP Captain Marvel (also known as Ms. Marvel) is a good choice for your free hero. She can one-hit KO Bruisers, her movement range is great, and she only gets better at L6+. If there’s any reason NOT to get her, it’s that you start the game with a Blaster (Iron Man), but really, the more the merrier. Blasters are a great class.
Black Widow (Infiltrator) – 16 CP *Best INFILTRATOR*
Undercover ass kicker
Infiltrator is the weakest class in the game, but Black Widow is best among them. Her L2 move is great and can work well with several other characters (Black Panther, She-Hulk, and Iron Fist) . At L6 she gets a good AOE stun. Black Widow has a good walk distance (+ ranged attacks) and consistently good damage-dealing capabilities. You can dig into the nitty gritty of her passives and buffs, but she’s great even if you take the lazy route and just play her as a straight up damage dealer.
Hulk (Bruiser) – 90 CP *Best BRUISER* Some say Hulk is the best character in the game. His movement range sucks at low levels, but level him up to L6+ and he will tear through maps. Good luck saving up the 90 CP.
Pretty Good Heroes
Captain America (Tactician) – 90 CP Steadfast support Captain America really shines as a support character. Use his L1 to give allies 2x movement range and own those long maps. He also gets free attacks when allies on adjacent tiles are attacked, and can buff teammates to do more damage.
Cyclops (Tactician) – 16 CP Cyclops got hit with the nerf bat a little while ago, knocking him out of the top tier and into the “still pretty good” league. Gets better at L6 and you can’t beat that 16 CP price.
Iron Fist (Scrapper) – 16 CP *Best SCRAPPER* He is the best of his class, but Iron Fist’s L1 has low damage and really only pairs well with Black Widow (they both have unarmed moves that can play off each other). He never gets ranged attacks, just close-up melee. On the plus side, his ability to heal nearby characters comes in handy and suits many players’ play styles. His L6 attack is a decent AOE. His lack of ranged moves keep him out of the top tier hero list, but if you’re in need of a Scrapper or want a good but inexpensive hero, Iron Fist is a good choice
Taskmaster (Tactician) – 48 CP Like Hawkeye but better Taskmaster has a nice passive that makes him perform a single target quick-shot after every enemy move, but it doesn’t do much damage. He is definitely better than Hawkeye, having Hawkeye’s advantages (range and speed) without Hawkeye’s glaringly low damage.
Scarlet Witch (Blaster) – 48 CP She’s pretty good, with decent damage and several buffs and debuffs to apply to your team. She procs random things every turn, which can be good (or meh). Iron Man and Captain Marvel are both better at dealing damage, but she’s not a bad choice for 48 CP.
Black Panther (Tactician) – Free Sometimes Black Panther is annoying, with his limited move range and close-in melee attacks, but he really shines in fights where bleed is useful.
Mediocre Heroes These are the “meh” heroes of the game. They’re just not as strong as the heroes listed above, and most of them don’t seem worth their CP cost.
Thor (Bruiser) – 90 CP Thor is not really the powerhouse he was in M:AA. For his 90 CP price, many players have expressed disappointment.
Spider-Man (Infiltrator) – 90 CP Playdom must hate Spider-Man, he’s just not that good in M:AAT (or M:AA for that matter). For 90 CP you can do a lot better. If you do buy him, he seems to pair well with She-Hulk.
Wolverine (Scrapper) – 90 CP Not really the best at what he does Another over-priced under-performer. He’s just middle of the road, though his regeneration is nice.
She-Hulk (Bruiser) – 16 CP She’s slow and weak (especially pre-L6). She suffers from a limited move range, an excess of single-target attacks, and lousy purchasable attacks.
She-Hulk is pretty buggy, too: her “Defense Attorney” skill gets applied to enemies, and her high defense stat doesn’t do much to keep her alive. Her biggest advantage? She’s the only bruiser that doesn’t cost 90 CP. Unless you are in dire need of a cheap Bruiser, skip She-Hulk for now.
Hawkeye (Infiltrator) – 48 CP Sorry, comic fans, Hawkeye sucks in this game. His crits hint at some hidden greatness, but his overall damage is sucky and doesn’t make up for having infinite range on single target attacks. If you’re debating between Taskmaster and Hawkeye, get Taskmaster.
Sif (Scrapper) – 48 CP Sif’s abilities do not do much damage, but her Level 2 lunge ability gives her additional range. She pairs well with Black Panther for extra bleeding goodness, but that’s about it. At least she looks cool.
Agents (Generalist) – 10 CP Don’t waste your CP on agents Agents are hands-down the most useless way to spend CP in Marvel Avengers Alliance Tactics. Even the worst heroes on this list are better than an equivalent level Agent. Keep in mind, ‘best’ and ‘worst’ can be subjective. This guide is based on feedback from hundreds of players, but if you disagree with the rankings, explain why in the comments and I’ll update this guide.
Hero Recruitment Strategies Is it better to focus on quantity and recruit all the cheap heroes first, then the mid-priced heroes, followed by the priciest? Or is it better to go for the best first? It all depends on your play style. Strategy 1: Recruit cheap heroes first Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Strategy 2: Recruit the best heroes first Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Personally, I like Strategy 1. The game seems to reward quantity over quality and the PVE content is really easy to chew through even with lousy heroes. Any hero is better than no hero, and Playdom can rebalance the game at any time making what used to be a good (or a bad) hero into the opposite. Plus, there’s a ton of farming along the way, and it is nice to be leveling up heroes instead of wasting XP on Agents you have no intention of training. Plus, if you played M:AA, you probably remember how heroes contributed to your overall PVP stats. Playdom hasn’t hinted at adding a similar system to MarTac yet, but it’s safe to assume that they will eventually put something into the game that makes you want all the heroes, good or not.
